A passionate ambassador for the charity Wings for Life, Mark is showing his support once again this year by taking part in the Selfie Run of the Wings for Life World Run on May 8th. Wherever you are in the world, you can join Team Aussie Grit and run with Mark at 11am UTC on 8th May.

The goal for Team Aussie Grit is to cover at least 1000km between them and to raise at least £1,000 for vital spinal cord injury research. If the team hits their fundraising target, every member will receive a signed cap with a personal message from Mark. Visit here to donate to Team Aussie Grit: https://win.gs/1MS6dV0

What is the Wings for Life World Run?

The Wings for Life World Run is a completely unique running event held across 33 different countries. All participants start running at exactly the same time around the world and are hunted down by a Catcher Car moving at an ever increasing speed, knocking people out of the race one by one. In May 2015, 100,000 runners and wheelchair users took part, completing distances from 5km to 79km and raising over €4million for spinal cord injury research.

If you can’t make it to one of the 34 locations around the world, the Selfie Run is for you. You simply have to download the Wings for Life World Run app for FREE from iTunes or Google Play and register as a Selfie Runner. At 11am UTC on 8th May, a live Selfie Run will take place. You simply have to open the app on your phone, put your trainers on and start running! A virtual Catcher Car will hunt you down and you’re out of the global race when you’re overtaken by the car.

How will it work on race day?

You will get a notification two hours before the race to remind you that the race is going to start. You will get a countdown, just as the rest of the world will, and a start signal to set you off. After the start, the app will tell you how far away the virtual Catcher Car is during your run. You can also tune in to the Wings for Life World Run radio straight from your Selfie Run screen on the app. Send in your photos and tweet or update your Facebook with your progress using @AussieGrit #‎worldrun.
