Aussie Grit by Mark Webber – Out Now!

Aussie Grit - spine stacked

Eighteen months after retiring from a twelve year Formula One career, Mark Webber finally tells the story of his journey from Queanbeyan kid to Grand Prix winner – and in typical ‘Aussie Grit’ style, it’s a no holds barred, searingly honest account of life inside and out of the cockpit.  Here’s a little teaser from the jacket:

In the high-stakes world of Formula One, only the fastest make it to the top. Few know this better than Australian Formula One legend Mark Webber. His career in F1 stretched an incredible 12 years, saw him earn 42 podium finishes and triumph in nine races, including twice-winning the crown jewel of F1, the Monaco Grand Prix.

But the road to the top of F1 racing is long and full of deadly twists and strange turns. In his long-awaited Autobiography, Webber tells the incredible true story of the small town pizza delivery boy who climbed the apex of the world’s most dangerous sport. With startling candour, Webber takes us on a thrill ride through the highs and lows of his amazing career, detailing the personal struggles that drove him, revealing the truth at last behind his rivalry with Red Bull Racing teammate Sebastian Vettel, and allowing us access-all-areas into a very private life played out on the public stage.

Filled with anecdotes about the great drivers, epic races and characters of Formula One, Mark Webber: Aussie Grit is a fascinating account of a life in the cockpit of an F1 rocket and the inspiring, no-punches-pulled story of a great, gritty Australian.

So how can I get my hands on a copy of Aussie Grit?

Aussie Grit, is out today (July 1) in hardcover and e-book in Australia.  Published by Macmillan Australia, Mark’s eagerly anticipated autobiography will be widely available from all good book stores and online retailers.

What if I don’t live in Australia?

Don’t worry, Aussie Grit is also being published in the UK!  The UK version will be published in September 2015 by Pan Macmillan UK in hardback and e-book too.  It too will be available in all good book stores and across all digital platforms.

Are there any differences between the two versions?

Yes, but they are minimal.  The front covers and the forewords will be different – the Australian foreword is by cricketing legend Steve Waugh, and the UK foreword is by three time F1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart.

Will you be selling any signed copies via the markwebber.com shop?

We certainly will.  There will be a very limited number of signed books available via the markwebber.com shop – 150 in Australia and 100 for the rest of the world.  It will be the Australian version and they will each have a signed bookplate inserted.  They will be restricted to one book per order – full details will be available on the shop soon.

UPDATE: the signed copies of Aussie Grit on the markwebber.com shop have already sold out – keep reading for more options to get your hands on a signed copy.

That’s not many, what if I miss out?

All is not lost if you miss out on a signed copy this time!  The UK version will be out in a couple of months and we plan to do the same again (i.e. have a limited number of copies with bookplates sold via the e-shop), so there’ll be another chance to get your hands on a signed copy of Aussie Grit (that’s the book, not the man…).  And then there’s always the chance to meet Mark and get your book signed in person, which leads us to…

I heard Mark will be in Australia this month doing a book tour – is there an opportunity for me to meet him and get my book signed?

Hi Peter – unfortunately we don’t have the details of which stores in Australia will be stocking Aussie Grit, that’s down to the publisher and individual chains and stores I’m afraid. In terms of when they go on sale on the markwebber.com shop, we’re aiming for the end of the week/early next week (as soon as the bookplates are signed and the books are ready to go!). Hi, I live in Brazil and someone from MW’s supporters Club just posted for us a link from Amazon-UK months ago saying that we could pre order our Mark Webber book in that link, so many people did(from Mark Webber Supporters Club), I did as well, I want to know if that link is official, of the real book – he said that was official but many people are asking about it now, said he has confirmed that was official. By the way, can’t wait to read the book, congrats Mark and Annie 🙂

Hi Naty – we can’t confirm for sure without knowing what the link was I’m afraid. Though we’ve just had a look at Amazon UK and can see the following page for pre-orders which as far as we know is genuine (https://goo.gl/2FIjM2). I hope this was the page that was shared.

Before reading this I urge you to view this as a recommendation for the upcoming book signings as opposed to a complaint, I mean that with all sincerity 🙂

I’ve just come home from the Canberra book signing where I got there an hour early to get a book signed (I did hand the security guard the clean book I purchased but the signed book I received back was someone else’s who had, unfortunately, not taken much care of it). Just before I got to the table the decision was made to stop all photos. To enforce this, a security guard stood in front of the table. My experience in a nutshell was: give my book to a security guard, watch Mark sign 6 books (without looking up) sat behind a security guard and then was handed back someone else’s scraggly book and immediately told to leave. To be honest, at the end of the day I didn’t really go to get my book signed or even to get a photo. I simply wanted to go just to say “thank you” and personally provide a tiny gesture (even if it was just two words) of my appreciation for the years of enjoyment and quality sportsmanship/racing that Mark has provided all his fans. Instead I’m left with a crumpled but signed book and a photo of security guard (with Mark in the background head down signing books). Once again, this really is not a complaint, It’s just one fans feedback so that future fans may get a little bit more out the signing than what I did.

The final thing I have to say is a huge thanks to Mark! Despite my experience I am well aware that he took the time out of his busy schedule to come to Canberra and sign a few hundred books for his fans which is extremely generous of him 🙂

I managed to get to the book signing today at Penrith. While I had to wait for 2 hours before getting the book signed, I have to say that it was well worth it. Mark obviously didn’t have time for a chat, but he was very friendly, smiled at every person and replied to any comments made, and had photos with every person (which were then put up onto the Penrith Westfields Facebook page).

I can only image how good the talk by Mark at the Sofitel would have been.

very disappointed at Penrith today. Mark arrived an hour and a quarter late, and then told everyone to rush as we was off to Perth.

I gave up and went home, as a F 1 fan for over 50 years I thought this was very poor.

There were thousands of people there and I am sure lots more of disappointed fans.

I was lucky enough to have Dymocks send me a signed book. I’ve followed F1 for 39yrs (before Mark was born) and lived in Queanbeyan for 4 years, I owned a townhouse there in Broughton Place. I’m fairly certain my car was serviced etc at Bridge Motors. I commend Mark on the open, honest and real book. The writing is as if Mark were speaking and is intriguing even if you didn’t follow F1 or motorsport. I’ve watched Mark race at Monaco, Melbourne and Malaysia although never met him sadly for me. I truly believe the 2010 title should’ve been his and RBR (in particular Marko Helmut) have a lot to answer for. I miss Mark in F1 and try to follow Le Mans etc when I can. F1 isn’t the same anymore and I’m only watching nowadays to see how Daniel Ricciardo goes but my enthusiasm is waning. I’m going to take more of an interest in Le Mans etc.
Mark your book is a great read and cements my thoughts about you – that you are honest, down to earth, talented, competitive and a brilliant representative of Aussie’s on the world stage – thank you.

Hi Mark, Have just finished reading my signed copy of your book the only thing I can say is WOW — what a story!
I live in the UK but wanted to get the Australian version … I’m pleased I did
    Thanks

Hi! In future will arrive an Italian version of the book? I’m very curious to learn the Mark Webber’s F1 life! 🙂

Hi Paolo – at this stage there is no plan to publish Mark’s autobiography in other languages I’m afraid. If that happens however, we’ll be sure to announce it via the website.

Hi there. I live in France and I would like to get Mark Webber’s autobiography. No way for me to order the Australian version of the book instead of the UK ? (the goal of that is to get it earlier). If it’s easier to wait for a UK version then no problem, I’ll wait for it but even if I wait for the UK version, how will I be able to order it ?
Sorry for the site Manager who may have answered this kind of questions thousand of times already.

Hi there – as the UK version will be published on September 10 (and is available to pre-order now), it would probably be quicker to wait. It is being sold on Amazon so you can have it shipped anywhere.

I’m not sure if you’re still signing books/selling them still. But I’m looking to buy a copy of my own. Not sure if it’d be a problem, since I live in the USA.

I’m trying to buy it for a friend, He runs the website [removed by site manager] with a couple others and they’re all racing fanatics!

If you could get back to me asap, that would be amazing! Thank you.

Hi Joseph – thanks for your message. While there aren’t any more signings taking place, you can certainly still buy copies of Mark’s autobiography Aussie Grit in the UK, Australia, the USA and Poland. In the US, Amazon still have copies available link HERE. As to Barnes & Noble, link HERE. Other major retailers may also stock copies. I hope that helps.
