2013 Hungarian Grand Prix – official qualifying

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Position: 2nd, (3rd Practice – P4, 1:21.125)
“There wasn’t much missing in that session, so Lewis did a good job. I put a strong lap in and had two sets of new tyres; I was pretty happy with both laps, maybe on the second I was losing out a bit in the middle sector and perhaps I wasn’t aggressive enough, but it’s no help to sit here now and say we should have done this or that. At the end of the day my lap wasn’t quick enough. Mercedes have a very strong qualifying pace. Lewis did an exceptional job today, also if you look at the gap to Nico, you have to be fair and respect that. I would have loved to have been a little bit faster and be on pole, but it still puts us in a great place for tomorrow. We have a good car and good race pace. It’s a shame Mark had a problem with the gears and KERS today, so he wasn’t able to challenge for the front, but still we should have a good race tomorrow and I’m quite confident.”
Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Position: 10th, (3rd Practice – P7, 1:21.254)
“That was a massively disappointing qualifying session. Obviously we had a lot of issues with the car and we left a lot of lap time in the garage, with items which weren’t working on the car at their optimum. We had no KERS, and a basic gearbox setting that we couldn’t get out of, which cost a lot of lap time. I was happy with how I drove, but it doesn’t count in qualifying when you need everything at the absolute limit. Instead of challenging for the front row, we were challenging for the last row of Q3. We’re out of position with a car that is capable of much more, but I didn’t have the car today to challenge for the results I thought we could get.”
CHRISTIAN HORNER: “To miss out on the pole by half a tenth of a second, demonstrates how close the grid is here. Sebastian looked competitive throughout qualifying and it’s positive to be starting on the front row of the grid at a track that is notoriously difficult to overtake at. Unfortunately, Mark’s car had two issues, one with the gear shift and also with KERS, which was probably costing him up to 0.8 of a second per lap. He did a very impressive job to get into Q3, but at that stage, with a car that was not able to run at its full potential, we had to take a strategic approach to tomorrow’s race. We therefore elected not to run in Q3, so he has a freedom of choice and fresh tyres for tomorrow’s race. It’s going to be interesting tomorrow and strategy is going to be crucial.”
(Renault) THIERRY SALVI: “The hot weather here brings some difficult conditions, especially for the cooling of the car. Nevertheless Sebastian did a great performance to put his car in second position on the grid. We were not too far from pole and the pace we had during the practice sessions gives us good hope for tomorrow. We are quite disappointed for Mark and his 10th position, but he had some KERS issues from Q1 onwards. We will do our best to help him to recover and score the maximum points possible.”

This has been happening to Mark for over 12 months now, there’s always something wrong with HIS CAR! Your only concern is to not upset Vettel and his hangeroner’s. Your a total disgrace a laughing stock and as Mark says an embarrassment.

Stupid Problems started not today but on day 1 of the season. Its a shame that this is happening to a driver who is driving for a WCC team

Red Bull are very biased toward 1 driver. It’s not hard to think there is a team member in Red Bull purposely conspiring to stop MW from getting anywhere near his team mate?

Anyone who still thinks Mark and his car aren’t being intentionally sabotaged is obviously delusional. This is outrageous. As soon as Mark walks away from those assholes at RBR, I’m no longer a fan of Red Bull -fuck them. It’s EVERYTIME Mark is in the running to win or start near to or in front of Helmut Marko and Christian Horner’s “finger boy”. Anyone else notice that if Mark is a little down the field that he pretty well never has a bad start? He’s not unlucky or bad at launching his car -he’s being sabotaged. P10 starting is far from being competitive tommorow, so I will guarantee you he’ll have a brilliant start. But if he gets too close to Vettel -expect a wheel to fly off or his KERS to “mysteriously” die on him again. I hate redbull and I love Mark Webber.

I sat watching qualifying in disbelief. Seriously it’s gone beyond a joke RBR should be ashamed of themselves. I don’t know how Mark keeps his composure and has kept it for over 12mths. RBR you are a disgrace to F1. I’ve been watching F1 from a young age and now going on 37yrs, I will not watch any F1 after this season – thanks to RBR. Hope you have a safe race Mark and still manage a podium finish. Cheers:)

Keep your chin up. Your performance is leaving the team for dead. Shame the team cannot perform at the same level as you.

I am not sure quite what to think, something tells me that RB do not want MW in row 1 to challenge SV, I hope I am wrong, but I do not think so MW,s face was white with fury and I know that he only gets this way when he feels lied to–and cheated

I do believe that Red Bull are being incredibly biased. Its not fair. Its not right, if anything, I would prefer the No. 1 driver to be based around their character and their ability to work as a team. Sebastian Vettel can’t do any of these things, whenever Mark is leading the race, he always tries to pass him. Sebastian Vettel is a bad sportsman and a disgrace to F1

its obvious by all the comments we love mark, reading i hope its not true that a team would purposely work against him, it is odd though that not much goes wrong with Vettels car,one thing we can be proud of though is mark has always shown dignity and great spirit, i know in life people don’t change much, so expect the same from everyone, all he can do is his best

Did anybody notice how pensive AN was yesterday? He looked very concerned watching the prep for finger boys car, he seemed very concerned with over seeing finger boys car pre-qualifying and paid little attention to Mark’s side of the garage? It is painfully obvious that there is a glaring discrepancy between the reliability of finger boys car and the unreliability of Mark’s car. In my opinion this is far beyond coincidence and should Mark choose to air it, I will be looking forward to hearing what really happened when Mark leaves this biased team. I applaud him for speaking out yesterday and can only hope he continues to criticize the team that has let him down so many times. It is a team sport and like all other top sports if the team isnt performing they change the team. Except in this case the team are exempt form punishment because they dont muck up on the only car that counts to them. Finally if I were in Mark’s shoes and this unreliability continues for to the next race, I would strongly consider just walking out on them and let them sort out the mess they created.

Australians need to boycott Red Bull products. I admire Mark’s dignified response to the team’s abysmal efforts.

I’m not prone to conspiracies… In this case you have to wonder why Mark always has an issue and who is behind it…? It is sad to think that one would compromise the team and another drive for the sake of ‘looking’ good. If Seb is that good why are they worried about Mark beating him?
    …. V disappointing :((

If I was Riccardo, the LAST team I would won’t to join would be Red Bull(shyte)…they want a backup guy who they can use to help Vettel stay in front, no matter what. Mark’s problem has been he can challenge that twerp, so they have to knobble his car…it has become so obvious it is a joke, and frankly, the owner of RedBull and those who answer to him should be investigated by the governing body. At the very least, the Drivers Association should take this matter up, as it is unfair to the driver and to the fans, and ultimately is turns fans awy from the whole sport.
