Mark had an eventful British Grand Prix, coming home just 0.4s shy of Sebastian Vettel in third place. He made two pitstops en route to the 25th podium of his career.
“It was a mixed race,” says Mark, “and I’ve come away with slightly mixed emotions. To win on Sunday afternoons, you have to get everything right and we didn’t do that. You make your own luck in motor racing and Fernando [Alonso] was the deserved winner of the race.”
A brief shower prior to the start played havoc with the teams’ tyre choices. The circuit was wet on four or five corners, but dry everywhere else and the field had no option other than to start on intermediates. Mark made a good getaway from pole position, but fellow front-row starter Seb Vettel did as well.
“The right side of the grid had more grip,” says Mark, “so Seb got the jump into Turn 1. But the race wasn’t lost at the first corner: I made a mistake at Becketts on my in-lap before changing to slick tyres and that allowed Fernando to gain a bit of time on me; the pitstops weren’t as smooth as at previous races and my front left tyre was finished by the end of each stint.”
Mark’s most competitive stint was the final one of the race. He quickly disposed of Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren to take third place and then set about catching Vettel in second – much to the disbelief of his team.
“The team radioed me about four times, asking that I maintain the gap to Seb,” says Mark. “But I wasn’t happy with that because you should never give up in F1, so I continued to push. If Fernando had retired on the last lap, we would have been battling for the lead.
“The team was worried about Seb and me crashing because it wanted the points for the constructors’ championship. I understand that, but I wanted points for the championship too and we proved that we can race without making contact.”
This latest podium takes Mark past the career total of compatriot Alan Jones, who scored 24 podiums in his 114-race career.
“It’s nice to keep knocking up podiums because they prove that you’re doing a good, consistent job,” says Mark. “But I’d replace a few of them for a world title like AJ!”
Mark now turns his attention to the German Grand Prix in two weeks time. He won his first race at the Nurburgring in 2009 and he’s hoping for another competitive showing this year.
“The race is sure to be another exciting one and it’s difficult to predict which teams will be fighting for victory,” says Mark. “Lewis pushed Seb over the line in Spain and Fernando has been very quick at the last couple of races. It’ll be close, which is what the fans want to see. I’m looking forward to it!”
Many of us are totally disgusted with RBR stance at the Brit GP, so much in fact that we have banned RB drins from our vending machine. i encourage all Webber fans to do the same and let RB now we won’t be let our champion be treated shabbily when he has massive talent
Soon, very soon Germany GP, I wanna to see your best results
really can’t see how Red Bull Racing can chastise Mark for not following team orders when there aren’t supposed to be team orders in F1 anymore… Do the right thing Mark and move to a team that appreciates a bloody good driver, all Red Bull wants is a puppet to help Vettel win. You are better than that Mark.
Cooee Cobber
You are inspirational.
Hi Mark, You are too good a driver to stay and waste your time at RBR. Get out of there, not fair on your behalf. Playing field has been uneven since late last year when you had the world champ in the bag. They stuffed your car in the last race of the year and you could not win your maiden world championship. All that hard work you put into the development of the RBR and this treatment. Mark you are too nice. Get out of that rotten team and go to a team that will treat you fairly
Good luck
Frank
Hey Mark. You make me proud to be Australian. You are a gentleman in the true meaning of the word. To hold your tongue in adversity must be truly hard and it shows the calibre of the man who can hold his thoughts close to his chest and continue as a team player when the team is playing favourites. Continue to be true to yourself and your fans will be with you all the way. Just don’t let this be your last year in F1. We will follow you wherever you hang your hat
Mark.. you’re a great driver BUT IF YOU ACCEPT to remain in RedBull you’ll know that for RBR you’re the second (for contract.) I undestand that arent other nice seat to go…
The team have proven that they don’t respect you as a driver. Keep on fighting those illegal team orders.
Well done mate, it continues to be great watching you race, you’re a true sportsman. It’s obvious that wherever the young German is, Mr Red Bull wants you behind him; the public order for you stay behind on the radio clearly demonstrated that. Horner and Co are just doing what they’re told, I imagine old helmet doesn’t even have to get frantic on the phone now, they just all know what’s expected. Time to change teams mate, you have as much chance of a fair go at RB as Fernando did at McLaren.

Mark. I’m an Aussie living in France, and followed you for a long time. You’ve had a stellar career, and every Aussie ought to be proud of you. I disagree with all the negativity on this site about you versus rbr. You know better than anyone, that a driver and the team are intrinsically linked. That’s fact. There is no ‘screw redbull’. It’s disgraceful that people on your site would even write it.
But of all your accomplishments, I think the most motivating piece I’ve ever read on you, comes from your ultimate boss.
Read the attached link (and everyone else), think on it, and then you will know how far you’ve come. One of the world’s most influential men, owning the world’s best F1 team, stating empirically his belief in you. He is a man who can have whatever he wants; he can have any driver in the world, and he wants you.
But you too are loyal; I remember during all the talk of the breakaway series… I watched you in an interview where you said, “Deitrich has stuck by me, and I’ll stick by him. I will race wherever he tells me to race” (or words to that effect). What a superb measure of the person of integrity you are. (Same for your comments about Flavio managing you BTW).
Bravo Mark, you’ve done so much for yourself, and more than any Australian in that sport in 30 years.
I also read, the worlds best aero-dynamicist Adrian Newey is wanting you to stay. How many more endorsements do you need, when the world’s best are choosing you, as one of the world’s best.
Forget the negativity. Wash it away, because it only prevents you looking at the future with bright eyes. Re-sign with redbull, and get on with the business of racing cars to win.
Go well,
Dan.
If they told me to “Heel Boy” I would of said ” up yours!”
can’t wait for the last minute rule change in germany about team orders. yeh right!!! It is a race for goodness sake, so lets race.
You totally deserved second place Mark, your a brilliant driver! You totally did the right thing by ignoring them! iiloveyouuu ♥
you would sure have surpassed Vettel – and Horner should learn to trust you more!!! Time to leave RBR, mate!
shining in the shadow of adversity. Your a champ for my money mate, pedal to the metal as usual and germany is yours, can’t wait…….
RBR = MEGA HYPOCRITES !!! WHAT A JOKE!!!
…after all the noise and comments, they made about team orders last season! Ok, RBR were 2nd and 3rd, if you had passed Vettel, RBR would still have been 2nd and 3rd. So, the TEAM’S points would not have been affected…
“Mark, maintain the gap”, means Vettel is their NOW publicly and officially confirmed Nr.1
![]()
Since the start of the season (..and last season, and…)RBR don’t intend to let you have a FAIR FIGHT with this kid. I’m very, very, very frustrated !!
Hopefully you’ll make the right decision for next season! Please, keep racing, F1 definitely needs a strong (rebel
)fighter and an inspirational sportsman. I’m sure you won’t disappoint sooooooooooooo many fans around the world.
MARK, THEY CAN MANIPULATE YOUR SET UP, BUT THEY CAN’T MANIPULATE YOUR GREAT SPIRIT !!!
GO ON CHAMP, BEST OF LUCK FOR NÜRBURGRING !!
Come on Mark, drop the BULL and just go for the RED, RED, RED, RED prancing thingy
Maintain your CRAP Redbull.
Maintain your CRAP!
Unaustralian!
Go on Mark, fight.
Horners just a slave to the money men, and doesnt want to be the naughty boy corner..Vettel…well what can you say…spoilt little boy….
Well done to you mark you did extremely well. Victory will come. See you at the next race
I’m sorry but I seem to be out of kilter with the majority of comments this week.
Firstly:- I don’t think for one moment Red Bull would put Mark out in a lesser car. It would be absolute madness not to field the best two cars you possibly can.
Secondly:- Seb and Mark are both great drivers but even great drivers have been known to trip over each others tyres. If the worst had happened not only would the team be looking at two damaged cars valuable lost championship and constructors points but also looking for two replacement drivers to complete the season. Have faith in the team as they obviously have in Mark.
I had a feeling the mid season rule changes would favour Ferrari and I tipped them to win at Silverstone. My tip for Germany? Red Bull 1 and 2. Too close to call which driver will be on top step but I hope to God it’s Mark.
great racing mate. nice to see drivers wearing their heart on their sleave, a fabulous trait! come out of the block fireing for the remaining races Champ!
Mark, get in a team that treat you equally. It’s obvious Vettel has a better car, you were beating him regularly last season, but unfortunately spun in Korea. I’m a Brit but I support you just as much as Jenson & Paul. swap teams with Lewis!
The support here is tremendous. It seems F1 is growing in Australia, and with 2 drivers in, there isn’t a better time to start driving. Good luck with your meeting with cristian horner during the week, hopefully we see you in F1 next year, whether you’re driving at RBR or at Ferrari I don’t care!
Hi Mark,
I was happy that Alonso won because I’ve always been a Ferrari fan. BUT, this is not the way to race…it was clear to everybody that you were faster than Seb and that you could pass him, easily. I hope they will change to treat you like this, but unfortunately I’m not sure of that. I hate these things, from Ferrari from Red Bull or whatever. Keep pushing Mark!!!
fight for number 1, mate!
Mark, you are the true champ..still many more races to go for this season…you can do it…All the very best to you.Remain focussed & the championship will surely be yours!
Mark – How do you remain so calm in the winners press conference? Begs belief. Horner stuttering under the microphone, made me flip out, the puppet that he is. He should be penalised for hindering a race. After all, it is a race. Money aside, why not race for a ‘team’. .Given equal car’s, we know your the man. One gripe though, why o why can’t you get off the line in every single race. My sunday dinner is going to be on the floor one of these weeks !
Aussie power brother! You will own Germany
Its okay, Seb is a new Schumacher. We all know it. Except Mark everyone knows you and Alonso are the best two drivers out there. But I guess the novelty of a German douche hasn’t worn off. You should buy all the Toyota gear and just employ a shit load of people and make your own team where you get treated like a champion. Australia is behind you and I know if you win in Germany this country will go into a frenzy of celebration! Down with Sebastian and down with RBR!!!
Hey mark,
i dont know if you read these comments, lol. anyway, you had a great race mate! there’s still 9 or 10 races to go, and you will do it =) i have a feeling the closing races will get you closer (if not over) seb! =)
Hi
i know that you wont probably read this, but here it goes.
You are a great driver when your angry, you take more risks and you achieve excellence (China race 2011), so why can´t you be mad all the time. Because face it, C.Horner was fare in his interests and with a lap to go, it was not really a direct win. So please mr.Mark Webber, get mad next race, win the next German GP, and then Hungary, and Belgium, that will most definitely send a message
Your career is similar to David Coulthard, it lacks a Championship win. good luck mate!
Congratulations on receiving the Hawthorn memorial Trophy
Mark, I reckon you’d look great in red…fingers crossed you’ve got big Flav talking to Mr Domenicali.
Hi Mark
Idon’t know what I should say? What happened in Sunday must increase your motivation and daring to challenge vettel, because he shows that he is not better or faster than you. you are showing who is the real champion. The RB now is lossing the people respect, are they want you as a points gatherer??!! please…please… please strength your start and be faster than all because the competitors believe that you always have a weak start so they can overtake you easily, so that vettel be calm when you achieve the pole position. Fight to the end and don’t think in retirement, these years is yours.
With my best wishes for next GP.
” sorry for poor english I have headache”
Must be that Red Bull has only got Seb on RB cans and packaging, and they don’t want to change it! (Big clue from way back).
Take encouragement from your many fans and rise above the rest to the top of the podium.
G’day from Ireland Mark! Great race on
Sunday. Keep up the good work:)
First my CONGRATS on another well-deserved podium and FANTASTIC RACE!! I was annoyed after hearing the team orders and then PROUD of your reaction. If RBR management wanted to keep points they could have said Vettel : “be careful , Mark is faster than you” so he could have made easier your overtake (just laughing)… Do not give up and show them you are a true CHAMPION!! You have my full admiration and respect.
Very best!
Just look back at those 3 x 360 degree flips (2 Lehmans, 1 RBR) and it shows how much courage/luck you have and the will to defeat fear and keep racing and winning races. Truely inspirational Mark! You’re a true Champion in our hearts.
Great stuff Mark! Really enjoying your driving and true grit. Keep it up.
GREAT DRIVE MARK!! RATHER THAN ORDER YOU TO MAINTAIN THE GAP WHY DIDN’T HORNER ORDER SEB TO LET YOU BY SINCE YOU WERE QUICKER?
Congrats on being second in the championship. Was slightly concerned about a collision between you and Seb but more worried he would take you off rather than you hitting him! Was both disappointed and relieved with Christians instructions. I understand his concerns but surely the subject has been discussed many times between the 3 of you. Doesn’t he trust his drivers? Don’t give up Mark. With you thro’ thick and thin x
I say leave RB. From last race I believe they are holding you back deliberately so that Seb can have clear road. Lets be honest, you were the only threat to Seb. You will be better off at Renault of even better at Ferrari.
Great race!As usually, your style of driving is very professional.See you on podium in Germany.
Chin up, Mark. Get those starts right and team orders won’t be a problem.
Great Race Mark. Don´t give up and fight. You have supporters in Germany. Win the next Race.
The best of luck in the next race!!! I really hope you will get him in Germany!
would love to see you take seb in a mclaren or ferrari next year no deserves second best equipment…all australia is rooting for you
Don’t back off Mark with your Aussie drive and character!! We love it. RBR might like to think about your points if something unforeseen should happen to Vettel. He is not exactly accident proof when another car gets near him. I’m sure Kubica never intended to leave the way he did. God bless him. Push the point and good luck.
Go for it as ever, Mark; still have a season to go and who knows what will happen. Time for another Aussie F1 champ. Regards from Botswana.
Mark i belive you’re faster than Vettel. But you haven’t try really to overtake Sebastian…”Mark Maintain the Gap” this word is ridicolous after Horner said that His team dont use it! He made be worst poor figure ever in F1 !!! Leave the RBR, you’re not Massa or Barrichello!
God i am so sick and tired of Red Bull showing favouritism to Vettel – where was the same favouritism to Mark last year when he was leading the championship and had a genuine chance of taking it out??? – Lets not forget the rear wing taken off Marks car and given to Vettel or the time Vettel`s tyres were brought out when Mark pitted(accidental?-i think not!) – I would love to see Mark move to Renault as the NO*1 and be given the respect he has earnt and deserves!! – Red Bulls#@t do`nt deserve a driver with his hard earned knowledge and talent! – Stick it up em Mark!!!!!!
You make us proud mate, you are a truly inspirational Aussie. Keep going, all the best of luck for Germany you really do deserve the win
Keep at them Mark. It has never been easy for you, but you rise and rise. Check out our campaign at http://www.sweetf1.blogspot.com/
Tell RBR where to shove their number twos! Go somewhere they respect you and want you to race hard – you have proven yourself and I should know since following you from your FF days with Yellow Pages! There is nothing for you at RBR – Horner does not even think you are World Class! RBR wont give you a chance to shine with Golden Boy and Helmut at the controls. I dont care where you go – just nowhere you will be asked to play second fiddle. Funny I enjoyed your time at Jaguar rather than this half witted team led by Helmut the Wacko – talk about not team oriented – he is the master of self interest!
We have crashed the RBR Community website, their Facebook page and been banned from numerous RBR sites just trying to get the message to you. DONT SIGN with RBR again … ever!
Mark, good drive on Sunday it a pity team orders are allowed in the sport in some repects as it takes away the wheel to wheel racing most would enjoy to see. Maybe Bernie and the FIA should scrap the two car teams and either make it a 12 car grid of seperate teams or sell the licences individually to those who could afford it and have a proven track record in F1. Maybe then we would have a less watered down version of a great sport. Good luck for the next GP.
Hi Mark, Fanstic racing at Silverstone. I Was screaming when you were gaining on Seb in the last few laps. But so gutted when the Team Order cam over the radio. Despite the explanations, it is quite clear to ALL that Horner knows only too well that Seb would never allow you to pass without compromising both cars in attempt to secure his position. From a Team point of view it made more sense to allow you to pass clearly having the faster pace thus securing a likely 1st & 2nd championship 2011 in both driver and manufacturers points. If Seb does win this year it will be due mainly to Team Orders and having the best car set up,and best pit stategies. Whereby your achievements have been against all odds.
I could see in the interview how hard it was for you to hold your composure. But as usual you were the perfect gentlemen. A real credit to the sport and to your country. Good Luck in Germany and keep up the presssure!!
GO SEB, once again sebastian you’ve been given placings by team orders not skill on the day. How do you sleep at night? Lower your head in shame and realise trophy’s on the shelf loose there shine when there not earned. Mark you are a number 1 driver, talk to the other teams before extending rbr contract.
IF the FIA examined Marks and Sebs engine map settings during qualifying and the race and found that Sebastian had been given an adavntage is that against any regulation or does it breach any stipulations in Marks contract?
Mark i told you that you will be on the podium, so a good job done, what you need to do Mark is take some risks with your pit stops, your pit stops are so predictable the this may have cost you a win, if you stopped for slicks at the same time that schumacher stopped you would have been in the lead of the GP by 10 to 15 seconds after the first stop, once you fall back to 2,3,4 you stander strategy does not work, you need to do something different compared to the drivers in front of you so please look at your strategy and do something out side of the square.
good luck in Germany.
Keep racing Mark!
I saw you very calm and serene, while we were angry with the team… Good for you
Mark all i hear are excuses you get pole you come in 3 rd. you dont seem to be able to start well. may be time to retire

Oh dear! I believe you’ve come to the wrong website. Your opinion seems to be at odds with the majority here!
Now is time for RedBull to quit car racing & start knitting & sewing sponsorship as they don’t believe in honest true racing !
Bravo to you Mark ! Never stop racing/trying to win. That’s why people watch it. RedBull are ruining racing.Get a big sharp bulls horn & shove it up the bum of the team boss.
Great race Mark, congrats! You`ve done everything right. If the team wanted so much to tell you something on the radio, it should`ve been “Mark please be careful!” That`s all.
Pity that radio wasn`t broken on the final laps hehe!
Good luck Mark, fingers crossed for you.
I used to think that having another good team like RBR up there with Ferrari and Mclaren would be a great thing for the sport, but the way Horner is deliberately destroying his own drivers chance to become a world champion is more than my stomach can bare. Good luck Mark for the rest of the year, but do us all a favour and please don’t sign up with RBR again. You deserve a lot better.
I think everyone is of the same opinion that team orders shouldn’t have come into force. It would have been an awesome last few laps if you’d just been allowed to crack on. I get Christian’s point about being a team and getting maximum points for the team, but what I don’t think he understands is how passionate we feel for the driver. Yes, the car was built by the whole team and you can’t fault them for that, but its the driver we follow, not the team. It’s about time he realised he has TWO phenomenal drivers working for him, not just one and a backup. Make it count in Germany hunny, we’ll all be right behind you.
Mark…sorry but you´re not good enough…
Only because of Vettel having problems woth Tires und KERS yout were so close…You´re 80(!!!)Points behind Vettel…GIVE IT UP!
*** SITE MODERATOR ***
Hmmm….but giving up would be a way too easy option! It’s a shame how some people simply don’t understand the Aussie mentality. How funny!
well done mark, show that little br*t that you won’t back up for any1
I think that the most important things are already said by your other fans.
I had a strange feeling after the race. I was perplexed by Christian’s call. How would the podium have looked … we will never know, unfortunately. This was indeed a hard day at the office.
Good luck for your next races! I will see you in Francorchamps! Hopefully you will treat yourself will a nice birthday present.
Mark:I support u 100% in every race and im glad u ignored team orders.Ur smart n a fantastic driver n hopefully one day RedBull will realise what they’ve lost n what another team has gained.
From England.
hi mark i think what you did yesterday was the right thing to do people pay good money to watch f1 and they deserve to see a proper race till the end if you cant race whats the point in turning up, red bull are doing you no favours
Great race, never give up, fight to be the champion that deserves to be! Here in Brazil you are a pilot dear. Strength and fight
Hi Mark
My thoughts, there is little doubt Vettel can drive fast, but can he drive under pressure, I think not look at Canada. Could he go from 18 to 3 to take a podium place, I think not. Perhaps the reason they did not let you race was because they didn’t think Vettel could cope with you trying to over take. Don’t think of retiring or changing teams just stay put and show them what you can do. Be competitive and drive like a bat out of hell, try to get a good start. Good luck for Germany mate will be watching and wishing you success. So many people think you are a great guy and deserve to win.
Mark, you proved at Silverstone that you are a true racer! Always push! Best of luck in Germany!
you just have to see on red bull’s site what do every F1 fan think about their strategy about you.
As always you were honnest, quick and not helped. Good luck for Nurburgring, and the end of the season!
RBR is now 110 point ahead so Horner need to wake up its not about the teamn its about selling drinks and their number 1 driver. Most likely RBR will win easy by the end of the year anyway at least same point or more.
Good race Mark. If REDBULL were fairdinkum – they would have told SEB to move over as YOU were the FASTEST in the team. GOOD JOB IN SPRAYING THE DIGNITARIES WITH THE CHAMPAGNE !!!
Mark: You show that you are a Man. And a Man is someone who stands for what he bileaves. You have my respect. Greatings from Portugal.
Great drive at Silverstone Mark! Like all Aussies right now I’m really feeling for you with all the garbage you have had to cop from RBR. Don’t let them feed you carp anymore. Another team next year??? BUT DON’T GIVE UP & DON’T RETIRE. SUCCESS IS ALWAYS AROUND THE CORNER IF YOU JUST DON’T QUIT! YOU WILL BE WORLD CHAMPION ONE DAY – ITS YOUR DESTINY AND YOUR DREAM! I will pray to the Lord, Jesus will help you to get it all sorted. All the best for Germany.
Unlucky at the start mate!I think passing Lewis and catching Seb alone in the closing stages proves your ability.. 10 races to go anything can happen..Claim the rest of the year as yours Mark.. you can do it..stand taller and give em all S**t. Prove the team by your actions, By the way, it would be great to see you driving a red car next season alongside a spaniard
I was SO-O disappointed about you having to maintain the gap – why wasn’t it in your favour last year? You deserve to be the champion.
I wholeheartedly agree with your view that team orders were unnecessary and was very disappointed, as a fan, that Christian sought to impose a ‘hold place’ order. Maybe Christian is a bit paranoid following the Turkey incident, which in my view was the fault of Seb in any case who attempted to move onto the racing line for the corner without being ahead of your car.
I don’t believe there was a likelihood of you crashing with Seb, and it shows a poor lack of confidence by Christian to suggest this was the case. Both yourself and Seb are too aware of the consequences and neither would wish to jeopardise their own position let alone those of the other RB driver. Given Sebs huge lead in the drivers championship it would have been more palatable for the team to let you through as clearly the faster car at that point of the race. However, I expect, as a true racer, you’d rather have been given the opportunity to have a real crack at taking Seb on the track.
Good luck for the next race in Germany !
During the post race interview you were biting your tongue very hard. Don’t know if everyone else noticed.
I was waiting for a witty comment from you.
I have read many comments and I agree with all I read.
I even signed into rbr to have a dig.
Bad advertisement for rbr.
Great driving from you mate.
Hope you read these all.
Nice race thx
Such a fustrating last lap for us fans listening to CH on team orders! GRRR!!! What happened to “No team order” that CH said last year??? Absolutely unfair to Mark! Keep up the strong fighting spirit mate. Best wishes!
So if it was all about the team getting the maximum points possible that day for the constructors championship and they was genuinely worried about the 2 of you coming together, (which in opinion would not have happened)why didn’t they just tell Vettel to not defend so hard and to let you past as you was very obviously the faster car/driver at that time? I’ll tell you why, becuase no matter what Christian says, it’s self-evident that Seb is the golden boy and the No.1 driver at Redbull. If it had been the other way round with Seb in 3rd it would have been a different story. I like Seb but the team are being unfair to Mark and the fans who want to see racing, not rules, regulations and orders engineering the finishing order. Keep going Mark and find a team that will treat you with the respect you deserve.
Gutsy stuff Mark, great drive. I think you would look good in RED.
Go Webber Go
It was a pleasure to meet you on Thursday at The Stag. What a brilliant weekend, but Christian Horner ruined the end of the race by telling you to hold back. What a hypocrite, he should let his drivers race each other for position fairly. Keep going mate, we are all behind you and know the wins will come!
Its about racing and wanting to win, not about obaying team orders just to make the team principal look good so that he can keep his own job secure. But at the moment Red Bull have the best cars and Mark is to old to start again with another team hoping they will produce a winning car sometime in the future.
The maintenance man….Next you will be relegated to janitor…lol Im angry about the team order, but I know you are above all that crap….Just show it to them next race. Two wrongs dont make a right and you well and truly shine above their shit….Go Mark…Kick ass next race Mate
Hi Mark,
I hope you are doing well after this weekend, where a lot of things went wrong. I totally agree with you, that you said the team calls were unnecessary, but they did it. BUT, I have to say, that I don’t agree with your reaction on this. I mean, I’m a big fan of you, because you are able (among other things) to fight. Otherwise you wouldn’t be there, where you are and I don’t mean just the current championship standing, I mean your achievements in your life so far and not just your F1 achievements, but you are doing around them, especially your charity activities as well. But you shouldn’t forget, that RBR is given you a car, which can bring you on podiums and gave you the car, with you achieved your first Grand Prix win in 2009. And the guys and girls in the factory and on the grid are the people, which you trust, when you go into the car. You trust them, that THEY give you the best car, which they can produce. And at the same time, THEY trust you that you use your skills to drive, and not just for yourself, but for your team as well. And that’s the point, they trust you, and you did a shit on this. Obviously, that was a decision which you had to do under an enormous pressure, but I hoped, at least after the race, that you will apologize to them. But you didn’t and that’s your opinion, but even a big fan can sometimes have different views. Take care Mark!
It’s a shame for Red Bull, but you have done well to stay on 3rd place. You need a contract for 2012. Your fans, including me, will see you next year too. The next GP in Germany is very good to strike back.
sad for you Mark…you should be second…wish you good luck in germany..kick them ass
Mark,
Seb was there for the taking and team orders came in to play, what a joke! Apparently they wanted the points for the constructors championship and I completely understand that but they would have had the same amount of points had you past him?? Its like telling a bull not to charge at a red flag, impossible!!! Things are clearly far from equal in the Team… Sorry Mark but I want to see you win a world championship but its not going to happen when the team play unfair…
Contract details leaked…. ” Mark will bend over and take it like a man, Mark will not whinge about being second best, Mark will always be happy and not comment, Mark will never beat a team mate”….. Bloody hell Mark, You`re an Aussie, maybe you should hang a set of fluffy dice off the mirrors to show them how arrogant they are being to your talents…
Aussie Aussie Aussie
It is a pity that Red Bull cannot trust Seb not to run into you and let you thrash him when you have the opportunity. Beat him at his home GP and rub it in.
Hey Mark, does Mr Horner read these comments??? if so hope he realizes what a he is saying telling you to keep the gap from Seb…thought he was against team orders and would rather see his drivers race!!! well so much for that! You have showed once again what a great sports man you are….give it them next round and Mr Horner, shove your team orders, and let Mark race on an even playing field…I’m sure you know what I mean!!
Good to see that you can put Vettel under pressure more and more. A shame to see that the team doesn’t want you to. Please stick to your beliefs and keep racing your ass off!! Greetings from Holland
Awesome job Mark, seems Red Bull cant handle the fact that you may be better than thier golden haired boy, in these past two seasons, they have done everything except break your bloody legs to stop you beating him, its about time the FIA stepped in. This is the same bullcrap that went on years ago, and why F1 lost all its support…..bring back racing….Red Bull ‘clips your wings’
Never Give,Never Surrender! Hope Im Not The Only One Who Thinks Red Bull’s Treatment Of You Is Disgracefull
Good job Mark! (it would be a brilliant job if you overtook Vettel) Ignoring the maintenance instruction was really impressing for me (like your comment at the end of the race last year). I like your way very much (also your political comments to Baharain), so go on with it, there are not enough racer like you. You say and do what you think, that’s great! Best regards from Germany!
I admire your graciousness in the midst of all this Mark. You are a true gentleman, and Sebastian could learn a lot from you if he cared to. Stay true to yourself, you can hold your head high, and we are all behind you.
You tried to do your best and that’s a good thing! That’s race!
I’m glad to see you at Nurburgring!Hope you are the winner!Cross my fingers!Give your best!
Like many of the posted comments, Mark is a true driver, proven in a few of the race finishes this season. Judging by the treatment dished out to him this season so far, Mark has done an awesome job so far. Vettel obviously has a lot more money behind him, but that by no means carries with it unparralleld talent.Time and again Vettel has buckeld when pressure has been applied from behind. This is why orders came down from above, three corners from the finish, otherwise all hell was going to break loose. Keep applying that pressure Mark.
You really make us Aussies proud. Always stick to your guns. Mark Webber, 1. Little Jack Horner, 0.
makes me wonder how much the vetal crew are paying C Horner to give the extra mapping for the start & if vetal would be able to compete with the rubbish mark has been sorrowfully put up with
Great race. Its all out in the open now. They don’t give you the support that you deserve. Go to another team that are behind you 100%. Love your work.
Keep up the pressure mate. You were right to fight it. Red Bull can’t worry about team mate overtaking in any situation it’s racing, a crash rarely happens.
Chin up mate, just think how sweet it will be to take the win in Germany
u said it mark (not bad for a number 2 driver) stuff RBR!!!
next race stop giving so much info to seb and let the young man and young team work it out themselves. stuff em
According to my understanding of arithmetic ……….. whether Vettel is in front of Webber or Webber is in front of Vettel – the “team” would have got the same number of points. Unless the “team” is Horner/Vettel !
Horner could have just said ” Mark is faster than you Sebastian – do you understand?”
Or would Vettel have ignored team orders?
Young Seb boy would NOT have lifted for you, and if Red Bull truly was a team, who would give a cracker which one of you came over the line first..You go bloke race like there is no tomorrow.
mark webber is most respected driver he dosnt need that team order he knows what he dose, shame on horner.
Congrats Mark but you deserve far better.
Great race again Mark, well done.I have watched F1 for 20yrs now and appreciate it is a team sport. I can’t understand why a successful team such as Red Bull would not want to guarantee a 1-2 finish at the end of the year? And as we know with many other incidents in F1 that anything can happen to a driver. So the Question is if Vettel is out of the championship for what ever the reason and you lose the title buy 6 points what would Christian’s boss say to that??? Not Impressed
(let them race)
What can I say, I have been waiting for you to win all year and for whatever reason it has not happened. Maybe yesterday was a bit of frustration? We (the public) don’t know what goes on behind closed doors, only you do but it does seem that they favour SV and I think everyone in oz wants you to win. Hang in there it will come.
I think CH didn’t look comfortable trying to explain away the reasons for the call. Remember last year at Germany? “Fenrnando is faster than you …”. That never went away.
Would love to see you in a Ferrari however!
Keep trucking mate. Your time will come for sure.
geez mate you are making things interesting. I guess there are know team orders now! F1 is much more entertaining with you around. Good luck in Germany and just turn that bloody radio off after the last pit stop, that’l stuff em!
Great race on Sunday, Mark. We were on Becketts and were willing you on to the the very end. Never give up on the battler spirit – that’s what makes us Aussie and proud!
So much politics keep going your racing again all the team and also RB management just make sure your equipment is as good as vettel. Keep your secret to your self.
Congratulations on yesterdays race. Red bull should be happy, no matter which one of you won. Obviously they can’t handle Vettle’s temper tantriums when he looses to you. You are the better driver and red bull would see that, if they gave you all the best equipment too. And you are much more of a gentleman than Vettle will ever be. Keep fighting, Australia is on your side. Keep safe and good luck always.
Total respect for you Mark. Stick it up them with your head held high.
If we trust your judgement Mark, why don’t your team? So many fans furious at Silverstone yesterday including me – you deserve so much better.xx
C’mon Mark, you’ve got all of Australia behind you after last night! Hope to see you on the top spot of the podium at Germany, that’d be a great way to piss off the golden child!
They won’t sack you Mark, so next time they say keep your distance, tell em to pull their head in and pass that spoilt little brat….. Your entitled to earn as many points as anyone else….
Do us all one favour, beat him in Germany !!
I don’t understand! that final race most disappointing! I’m a big fan of yours and when I heard the team radio almost break the TV!!!!
were only three points! So much fear has to Alonso?
Why couldn’t win to be well with Red Bull?
and don’t enjoy a race
1, the probicion of double diffusers at half championship (FIA = Italian Mafia)
2 nd team orders (go stupid), so do not feel like running!
I sincerely hope, that the directors of Red Bull to open their eyes and not miss a pilot of your qualities.
kisses from barcelona.
Great race Mark! You are the Gentleman of F1 unlike some others including team personel too.
Mate get angy on the race starts and be more aggressive! That is what you have lacked all year! Even if you dont get a good start, protecting position needs to occur better than you are currently doing mate.
Hats off, you are doing a fantastic job in F1 and we are behind you 100% no matter where you go!
I have returned all of my RBR gear bought online to RBR at my cost. I have lost faith in that team and it’s owners.
Its to early in the season for team orders and on a whole I dont think they should be used. Christian needs a good kick up the arse mate!
Mark! Keep fighting! You will win soon!!!!
“crackle..crackle..maintain the gap mark..maintain the gap….crackle..crackle” that comment should help you decide on what to do next year…we can’t have you racing Mr Potatohead. at least we now know why you haven’t been able to match him this year, all they’ve had to do is fiddle around with your mapping software.
when are you going to leave this one-man team, i’d rather see you retire than risk your life those arseholes. RedBullSHIT
Hi Mark
Thanks for a great race, yesterdays and ashame that Christian asked you to back off on the last lap as I think that i was the only Mark Webber in my section of Luffield as the woman in front had a Seb hat on.
Cheers mate
Mark, many thanks for the great race, without you it wouldn’t have been so exciting. With every race you show your class, courage and talent. I’m sure you know what a great motivation you are for many people, again, thank you! All the best from Poland
Maybe, go the the team where the likes of Adrian Newey will be or is working next. And this time you are the Main Driver.
Hi Mark,
Pity you have to beat BOTH Seb & THE TEAM. I’ve lost respect for Red Bull management, obviously they ONLY want Seb to win the championship. Stick it up them !!
In the 70 or 80 you would have been world champion, because in this times you had to battle to win races… Things going up nowadays aren’t the best for motorsports in any way! They should call it Formula Chess!
Keep on racing Mark!
Hi Mark,
Well done on ignoring the team orders. Red Bull have more interest in winning than providing a real show for the people who make this sport possible in the first place. We want a show and you gave it.
Mark, what can anyone say….nothing excepot this; now we have PROOF you are being treated as a second class driver in your stable. In all our hearts and minds, you will always be FIRST CLASS! By the way, those Ferraris are looking rather quick…might even be better next year…hint hint! hehe!
Well done, Mark! Good to see that somebody carries the torch for fair and competitive racing!
hi mate – i could NOT put up with their sort of sh.. – vettel is so far ahead that u would need to put him in hosp – if they had let u through u maybe could have caught alonso – it was a total win – win situation for all – even seb could say what a nice guy he is [bs] – make sure u point this out to horner & seb – iq’s of 55 MAX – tot for them both – EGOS – 500 similad points each – d…heads the 2
all the best bro
gheorghi
I think I can safely say on behalf of every Australian, Vettel should have made way for Mark so that he was able to increase his lead over the 3rd placed Alonso in the Championship race.
Good luck in Germany. We all hope you can jump on Vettel in his home race.
Well done on the weekend mate. Seb is just another competitor like everyone else, all trying to win the championship. You make contact illegally you pay the price. Racing should be left on the track. Lets get them at Germany. good luck….
Congrats for what you did yesterday… For me as a viewer it was extremely hard again!! I really admire you for your strengh!! You’re my champion and the best on the grid (and also off the track) ♥!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyable. Go Champ! Go get them. I’m looking forward to rest of the season.
Excellent race – just need to improve the start. Fantastic finish keep it up. The second half of the season will be there for your taking
Hi Mark,
well done keep your head held high done stoop to their level.
Get him in Germany even if the team wont help.
Mark, you and Vettel can only race without making contact when Vettel is leading
You have done well at Silverstone. Enjoyed the race. Felt the comment was not necessary and it did leave a bad after taste. Also did not want to see you and Seb have a contact as well. Wish you both have an excellent weekend at the German GP. At times we jump to conclusions without thinking because of the fears. You have worked your way up so lets be focused on that to reach the top. Good Luck
I think you did the right thing Mark, and as you said you two proved you can race without taking each other out. I would like to have seen the radio call, if you were in 1st and Seb 2nd, and Fern in 3rd…
Nice racing, well done.
Tim Barnes
Perhaps if the team wanted the points and no chance of an accident they should have asked Seb to make way im sure this would have been the call had Webber been in front
thanks for being a true sportsmen Mark. you are a true champion.
Hi Mark,
Well done on another good solid drive & more valuable points putting you second in the championship. In one of your pit stops, yes the team did not make a very good job. I am very disappointed that the team did not allow you to fight for second position, only to be told on the last lap to maintain the gap. I share your frustration. I do not recall last year when you were leading the drivers championship for Seb to be told to maintain the gap. You deserve better not to be told to play second fiddle. Best wishes & good luck for the German GP. Let that Aussie grit shine through to the first position on the podium.
Perth WA
Way to go Mark, racing is all about racing to win. Having team orders is not racing as much as i say it leaving does not mean it will not happen at another team. The best solution would be having one car teams.
sorry for you that you were told to hold back. I’m sure if the positions were reversed the radio would’ve been silent
Keep up the great work Mark, Bad luck with the team orders though I think you would have had seb.
Considering everything that happened you had a great race Mark. It would of been fantastic to see you overtake Vettel(which you could of easily have done if you didn’t have to listen to Christian Horner) Looking forward to watching you race in Germany. GO MARK!!!!!
On ya Mark shoud have been able to race vettle are they worried he dosnt have enough points or that you are starting to get the better of him with all tha advantages red bull gives him.maybe time for another team ferrari maybe
Your to nice a driver for Redbull.the team is too one-sided for Seb. A pity there is not another competitive team you could change to
Great race Mark, Far better in a team that is behind you 100% midfield than a team that protects the short commings of so called number one driver
Mark I trust your judgement in overtaking vettel safely rather than if the roles were reversed. Redbull have been trying to ensure that you guys aren’t on the same piece of track at the same time. Redbull Racing must let you race. Congratulations on another great drive.
WOW!! Mark. You are the true professional. you could have unfurled a lot of comments on the post race but like a true pro champ you decided to be diplomatic. hats off to you mate and what a bloody good race at that. i support Mark Webber and Aussie Grit but i am not so sure about supporting Red Bull anymore unfortunately.
Tommo.
Keep fighting, keep racing.
It’s what your fans & F1 fans want to see.
Were with you Mark, not RBR.
Great job at Silverstone. Pity about the pit stop and I am really annoyed about the call to “maintain your gap to Seb”. Total nonsense, and the excuses Horner is giving are garbage.
Keep racing Seb hard, you’ll get him!
Good luck for the future races.
Mike.
When are redbull going to give mark an equal chance of winning..if i was mark i would put vettel in the wall and go elsewhere…all they have to do is let mark have the same engine/mapping settings rather than giving vettel that extra half percent all the time to ensure that mark will never be able to beat vettel but always have a chance of beating evryone else.Come on mark give it horner on the neck and dont back down.
I have nothing but respect for your boundless energy and fighting spirit. Good effort today.
Mark, you deserved to be up on that second step today, you were clearly the faster red bull driver, being told that you had to maintain a gap brought a disappointing end to the race. Mark you’re a great driver and deserve to be treated as an equal in a team, keep pushing and doing what you’re doing and the wins will soon come. good luck in Germany…behind you all the way Mark!!
Give it to them Mark, You;re better than they are. Red Bull are a cheap bunch.
Mark Webber is the Team Principal of MW Arden, a three car team in the new GP3 series supporting European Grands Prix.
Mark, give them hell. A win in Germany would be fantastic and we know you’ve got it in you mate. Mark in Germany, Cadel in France, WooHoo.
