Mark’s Silverstone Preview – My Second Home Race

POSTED ON July 08th, 2010

“Having lived in the UK for so long, the British Grand Prix feels like a second home race for me. Silverstone was the first track I visited in the UK after landing from Sydney in late ’95 and I enjoyed a lot of success there in the junior formulas.

“I now live just 45 minutes from the circuit, which means I can sleep in my own bed over the grand prix weekend. What a novelty! With the long summer evenings that we’re enjoying at the moment I can even take the dogs for a walk when I get back from the track, which is a great way to relax.

“Silverstone is synonymous with speed. Through the opening seven corners of the lap the speed of an F1 car never drops below 200kph (125mph) and there are some very fast changes of direction, which are both exhilarating and physically demanding.

“The layout of the circuit has changed a bit since 2009 because there are four new corners this year. Two of them are very slow, but I don’t expect them to alter the overall flow of the track; it’s still going to be a fantastic high-speed challenge. Our engineers expect average speeds to be slightly faster with the new layout because a couple of straights have been added.

“From a performance point of view, I hope we’ll be there or thereabouts this weekend. The aerodynamic efficiency of Red Bull Racing’s RB6 should suit Silverstone’s fast sweeps and physically, I’m in great shape. There are no lasting effects from my crash in Valencia a couple of weeks ago; I was a bit sore for 48 hours, mainly due to a bit of whiplash, but I was training normally by last weekend.

“Four drivers – myself, Seb, Jenson and Lewis – have all won two races thus far in 2010. I’d love to be the first guy to notch up his third win of the year.”

Hi Aussiegrit. Sorry for the other day, I was a little hard. You stay still my favorite driver, by far …! You know,we have a saying in France that says “Who loves well, chastises well. I wish you full good things for Silverstone, you can get pole and win, I’m sure. I trust you, (it is more the others that scare me). This time, try not to take you for a pilot. Have you seen the Tour de France fell in Spa? Take care and good luck, fingers crossed for you as usual. Soon. Kisses
