Australia’s Sporting Elite to launch the Cadbury Schweppes Mark Webber Challenge

POSTED ON November 04th, 2003

Mark Webber will be joined by Oarsome Foursome star, James Tomkins and Australia’s Iron Man machine, Guy Andrews, to launch the Cadbury Schweppes Mark Webber Challenge at Federation Square in Melbourne on Wednesday, November 5 at 12 noon.

Webber, Tomkins, Andrews, Pat Rafter, Steve Waugh and Cathy Freeman are participating in a grueling 10-day trekking, kayaking and cycling challenge through one of the world’s most stunning location, Tasmania, for the Cadbury Schweppes Mark Webber Challenge from November 7. The event will raise funds for two Australian children’s charities, Brainwave Australia and CanTeen.

This inaugural event commences on Tasmania’s isolated West Coast on Friday and the 10 days will encompass a 1,000km rugged track round the south coast and up the East Coast before concluding on the spectacular Freycinet Peninsular on November 16.

The Challenge will see Mark and the others applying themselves to a variety of disciplines which include a three day trek and camp in one of the world’s remaining wildernesses and kayaking through Port Davey – a harbour as large as Sydney Harbour with only three homes on site! The participants will use both mountain and road cycles to tackle the dirt tracks and roads along the west and east coats.

Mark, James and Guy will officially launch the start of the Challenge at Federation Square with a bottle of celebratory bubbly, explain their training regimes, discuss the toll of the Challenge will have on participants’ mental and physical health, the capabilities of their Land Rover support vehicles and participate in a media Question and Answer session before bidding farewell and heading to Tasmania

Date: Wednesday, November 5 2003
Time: 12-1.30pm
Location: Federation Square, corner Flinders and Swanston
Streets, Melbourne
