MEETING ANN #MadyMyMark

I first met Ann in 1994 and at the end of my first year in Australian Formula Ford, dad asked her to help look for some sponsorship for my second year in the Championship. She secured a deal with Melbourne-based Yellow Pages who were already behind a Young Achievers-type programme and with Melbourne becoming the home of the Australian Grand Prix from 1996, they were keen to have a focal point of interest and involvement at the event.

Ann and me with my Yellow Pages livered F3 car at Donington Park in 1997.

When we moved to the UK at the end of ’96, Ann’s knowledge and contacts within British motorsport were invaluable; in those early days it was important to know who could be trusted and who couldn’t and to stay away from the sharks.

Your getting my wife all emotional Mark! They say behind every great man is an even greater woman, you have found that woman in Ann she is a wonderful lady and you have always had great family support as well. Well done for all your achievements in F1 and good luck for your future in WEC, there’s some great times to come and we’ll be with you. All the best to you and your very proud family.

I have followed your career since the days in 94 & 95 when you raced with my son Mark in the Australian formula ford championship and you should be very proud of the success you have had and more importantly the way you have represented Australia and stayed true to the values learnt from your parents – best wishes for the future.

Good luck for the next chapter in your life. That photo of Ann and yourself with the F3 car is at Silverstone! I was lucky to be working for Mercedes Benz (LAT) covering the FIA GT Championship in 97 and 98 when you were with them too.

“Congratulations” to you both on your success and honouring each other through what must have been at times one hell of a ride! “Go Team Webber!” Now just make sure I get a good race when I finally get overseas to watch you race Porsche WEC Mark! 😉
