Mark’s Chinese GP Preview

on April 12, 2013 2013 Season with 63 comments

Mark arrived at the Shanghai International Circuit on Thursday morning amid a flurry of camera flashbulbs. The world’s F1 media was waiting to quiz him about events at the Malaysian Grand Prix three weeks ago and Mark gave candid responses to their questions.

“It’s been a good break for everyone since the last race,” said Mark, “and I’m now hungry to get back in the car this weekend. But you need to understand that Malaysia was not the only scenario like this; we’ve had many scenarios like this in the past and that’s why my emotions were running pretty high after the race. You always have a lot of emotions when you’re in the car and it’s our job as drivers to manage them. There’s always stuff going down when you’re running at the front in F1 and it’s just a question of working out how much of that you’ve got to manage. This was one of those occasions.”

Before moving on to talk about this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, Mark was keen to correct some misinformation that’s been doing the rounds over recent weeks.

“Some people have been questioning whether or not I’m going to finish the season with Red Bull,” he said. “I’m definitely keen to do that. I want to put together a strong campaign and challenge for more wins. My contract with this team has always been year-by-year and come the summer I will talk to Dietrich (Mateschitz, Red Bull boss) about the future.”

As for this weekend’s race, Mark is confident that the RB9 will be competitive. He’s led more laps than any other driver this season and he’s gunning for his 100th career points finish on Sunday.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car,” he said. “We proved at the first couple of races that the RB9 is pretty competitive. We didn’t dominate by any means, but no-one is doing that. We’ve put a lot of effort in for this weekend; the guys have been working hard and I’ve been doing a lot of work in the simulator, so we’re ready to go and hope to get a good result.”

Good luck Mark – you are not only the best driver, you are a man of honesty, integrity and grit. But please don’t sacrifice yourself for the team anymore, they don’t appreciate you. Seb and Red Bull are ‘the team’ as far as they are concerned, so just focus on yourself from now on. If you and Seb are racing, don’t worry about team orders or saving the cars, because Seb certainly won’t. Don’t give him any more chances to do the dirty on you – run him off the road if he is being selfish and if both the cars get damaged, well that’s what Red Bull deserves. Why should you sacrifice your own chances to give them the manufacturers championship when they don’t give a damn about you?
You have been more forgiving than a saint – just go out there and do your best regardless of what the team wants, and Seb will soon find out it is not that easy to beat you anymore. Good luck for China!

You have my full admiration for staying calm in this situation and not playing Sebs game in the public (media).
I always respected him as a very good and professional driver. But now the lost my respect completely. He is a racing machine with bad habits. This whole story proves me in being a fan of you since you started in Formula 1. Good luck, Mark show them who you are – no 1.
I’ll be sitting in front of the TV and send you good vibes. Btw you have a lot fans here in Austria!

Nice work in expressing your view of what happened in Malaysia. The sporting world needs more articulate, reasoned gentlemen as examples and role models. I’m proud to say I’m a fan of one of them.

Mark, keep your cool. I’ll be mad enough for both of us.
Vettel showed what he is in the press interview yesterday. He is simply a liar and an arrogant puffed up prima donna who puts his personal interest above that of the team.
I say turn the wick up on the Red Bull cars , cancel all team orders, let them race and see who is best.
    To the devil with Vettel.

The ego can be hard to control SV has a huge one a psychoanalysts dream
Nico on the other hand is more like Mark, more balanced, rounded and likeable
I would advise the fans to be grateful for MW, just forget abt Vettel, getting upset will just spoil the race experience
