2013 German Grand Prix: Race Report

Car 1 SEBASTIAN VETTEL, Finish Position: WINNER, Start Position: 2nd

“It was a tough race; it was one of the toughest for a long time. I’m happy the race wasn’t two or three laps longer, as Kimi was a bit quicker towards the end. I’m very happy that it worked out and it’s very special. The team worked really hard to give me the chance to win this weekend and we got it. First of all you have to remember that it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to race in your home country; we have around 20 races, but there are obviously more than 20 countries, so it’s special to race at home and get so much support. I had a good start and then just focused on every single lap during the race. You don’t really think about where you are while you are racing, you can’t allow your mind to drift, but when the flag came out and the race was over I really let myself enjoy the parade lap and saw a lot of people in the grandstands cheering and waving flags. These pictures will remain in my head for a long, long time.”

Car 2 MARK WEBBER, Finish Position: 7th, Start Position: 3rd

“I knew we had lost the tyre in the pit stop of course, but not that someone got hit by it. That’s bad and I hope he is okay, that’s the main thing. Today was a bit of a nightmare and you want to wake up tomorrow and have another go at it. We had an excellent start and were in a great position leading up to the first stop with Seb, but we lost all of that. We lost a lot of points today and a chance to challenge for the win, but there’s no rewind button now.”

CHRISTIAN HORNER, Team Principal: “The most important thing today is that the cameraman who got struck by the tyre does not appear to have suffered any life threatening injuries. It’s a timely reminder that working in the pit lane is dangerous. Everyone reacted incredibly quickly and the most important thing is to hear that he seems to be fundamentally okay. Looking to the race, for any driver to win their home grand prix is something tremendously special and after the disappointment of missing out on the victory a week ago in Silverstone, Sebastian drove faultlessly today and can be very proud of what he’s achieved in his home grand prix in front of the home fans. It’s a huge result for him and very positive for the Championship. For Mark, it was a strong recovery drive; he got back on to the lead lap through the pace car and then fought his way back into the points. It’s a great shame that we couldn’t have both cars right up there today, but all credit to Mark for his very determined drive. We need to understand what went wrong in that first pit stop for Mark, but as I said, our main concern today is knowing that the cameraman is okay.”

THIERRY SALVI, Renault: “We fought hard for that today. Kimi and Romain really pushed us hard, but Sebastian did a great job to win at home for the first time. Mark also drove a storming race, coming from a lap down to a points-scoring position. For Renault it is very positive to see three Renault-powered drivers racing for the win and ultimately to have a clean sweep of the podium. Although it certainly makes us nervous behind the screens!”

Mark must at times wonder if some distant relative killed a chinaman to attract such luck. I feel for him. Though his resolve to fight on was the most astounding aspect of the race for me. Mark was the winner for me today.
A podium win is now just around the corner.

I told my wife before you pulled into the pits that you were inside the DRS for Seb V and that the pit crew would have to slow you up.I was right.

Mark, such bad luck for you in Germany. I really thought you had a good shot at the Podium. You drove well to get back in the points. Good luck for the next race.

You showed great Aussie grit determination on Sunday Mark. RB and your so called crew are the lowest of the low these kind of ‘incidents’ have been happening now for over a year and nobody’s backside has been kicked over it – disgusting. The winner yet again on Sunday was yourself Mark, don’t know how you manage to keep your constraint, you have got the patience and determination of a saint. All the best Mark for the remainder of the season, were all behind you.

Great fightback. When is Redbull going to stop inventing ways to mess up your races. Hopefully Porsche will be a lot more compitent. In teh ensuing time see what you can do to finish Redbull’s education and pick up a couple more wins.

Mark, you are a true sportsman. Too bad that Horner and His so called genius Newey can’t see that. Anything to let you down…..RB wankers….Good Luck with the next race mate, I am not a fan from 2014, unless Dan gets your seat…

Talk about ‘race fixing’. Webber would have definitly won that one.

Its not that Mark is “unlucky”. Its clear RBR know they have the WCC sewn up. They have such an advantage over other teams its almost ridiculous.

What pains me to see is the blatant and obvious sabotage that is happening at RBR with respect to Mark.

KERS failing right before he lines up on the Grid, very inconsistent clutch biting issues, blatant pit-crew malfunctions, Terrible strategy calls, insubordination, treachery consistently in almost every race.

Its an absolute charade and people still think its “luck” that Mark is being affected by.

Three words. Horner + Mark + Vettel

I’ve been giving this whole sabotage thing some thought….I believe it actually turned out perfectly for horner, marko and diem- the redbull owner chap… everyone was distracted by the really really questionable pitstop because the wheel flew off and hit the cameraman… now horner can say things like “our main concern was that the cameraman was ok” rather than “our plan worked, except the wheel wasn’t supposed to fly off like that and mark was only meant to lose a few seconds”…. its disgusting… sure seb is the youngest world champion, they are trying to turn over shumi’s records, but he really isn’t earning those titles fairly when the team favour him so blatantly…. mark, if i were you i’d stop being such a team player and start messing around with sebs races at the expense of my own… but your a much more honourable person than i could ever be, thats why we love ya… keep fighting mate, number ten is coming up… you have top form even at this stage of your f1 career so lets continue taking it to them webber…! (your fans back in oz were just getting over the chinese gp, now we’ll be shaking our heads for another six months)
