Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge

The Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge, inspired by Mark’s love of fitness and the great outdoors, is back in 2011 after a three year hiatus.

After breaking his leg in the 2008 event, Mark vowed the event would return to its original location and the stunning backdrop of Tasmania’s breathtaking scenery.

“There were a lot of people that wanted to take the event to other parts of Australia, and overseas, but Tasmania is where it started and I think it’s very important to keep it here” says Mark.

Mark loves the experience the Challenge provides to all competitors, from the elite to the beginner.“I love seeing people being rewarded for putting in the hard yards.  The Challenge isn’t all about elite athletes; we’ve had people turn up to compete who have never done anything like it before and they’ve amazed themselves by getting through the whole event – for many of them it’s been a life-changing experience and it’s great to see them having a go.”

The event will return bigger and better this year and will continue to raise funds for the Mark Webber Foundation, which suppports selected Australian Charities.  Details of the 2011 event will be launched on Tuesday 22 March – watch this space.

“I’ve visited a few hospitals in Australia,” says Mark, “and it’s in those places that I’ve seen people who were much less fortunate than me. People for whom every day is a struggle. As I started to do well out of my own profession, it made me want to give something back and to help people back home. I don’t like to shout about it, but that’s my philosophy and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”
