Austin
Let’s wait until we get there to answer that one, but the downhill left towards the end of the lap looks interesting.

Obviously we can’t be sure until we turn a wheel in anger but Turn 1 looks like it might encourage a few collisions.  The approach is steep uphill and the corner closes back on itself which will make it blind for us drivers.

Turn 19, a downhill left, could be an interesting corner; though of course we won’t know for sure until we get there.

Mark's 2012 preview coming soon

AS A MATTER OF FACT…

  • The 5.516km Circuit of the Americas is the first purpose-built F1 track in North America. It’s being built in an area called Wandering Creek (sounds a bit Australian?), south east of the Texan capital Austin.
  • Red Bull Racing were the first F1 team to complete a lap of the track when David Coulthard drove the team’s show car around the proposed layout last summer. “It looks great,” said DC, “but when there’s some asphalt down it should be a lot easier!”
  • Alan Jones was the first Australian to win the US Grand Prix, when he won at Watkins Glen in 1980 and Long Beach in ’81. Mark’s best-ever result in the United States Grand Prix was seventh at Indianapolis in 2007
  • The United States is back on the F1 calendar for the first time since 2007.
  • Austin calls itself the “Live Music Capital of the World”. How apt that it will be reverberating to the noise of F1 V8s from 16 – 18 November 2012!
  • This year marks the sixth consecutive year that F1 has welcomed a new race on the calendar. In 2007 the new venue was Fuji; in ’08 it was Valencia and Singapore; in ’09 it was Yas Marina; in ’10 it was Korea; in ’11 it was India and this year it is the Circuit of the Americas.
