The chat application loads in about 30 seconds, then it asks you to enter a nickname. Just choose any Chat Nickname you like and try it. If it registered by someone you will be asked for a password. If you don't know the password you will automatically be entered as a guest with a guest number.
If you would like to try another nickname, simply type in: /nick SomeNewNick. For example: /nick RedDragon99.
You can register a Chat nickname at telstra.com Chat Services, but registration is not required to enter the chat room or auditorium.
